1970 Sanger 19.5’ Circle Boat

FOR SALE OR TRADE History on this boat: made in early 1970 at the Sanger Boat Co., this longer than normal Flatbottom boat was originally campaigned as Sanger’s Factory circle boat, which in all the California lakes was a huge event. In speaking with old-timer Sanger employees this boat was originally white with tangerine trim, a single seat, and various engines, all BBC’s, both blown and naturally aspirated. It won numerous races in its class over a 3 season span. Several things stand out about this “circle boat” in that the engine sits facing forward, and the driveshaft drives off the harmonic balancer (nose), via a heavy duty drive shaft into a 12 degree Casale V-drive, into a 1.125” prop shaft to the 14”x22 pitch 2-blade monel propeller. It is also equipped with larger control fins (skegs) and a bit longer/wider rudder.
Engine issues arose, preliminary inspections revealed numerous different cylinder compression readings and cam specs were even worse. So I put the boat up in storage until October of 2017 because of vacations and grand-kids and numerous other stuff. The engine was pulled out and taken to JD Machine (Jim DeGroot-well known engine builder in central Texas and past BFHydro builder/racer) in Dripping Springs. Lots of work done, but is now a 475ci, rectangle head, Howard Cams hydraulic cam, lifters, pushrods and Gold roller rockers. Engine was completely balanced and finely blueprinted. I have all those receipts available.
While waiting for the engine to get finished both U-joints were replaced in the driveshaft and the Casale V-drive was rebuilt with new bearings and seals and Lucas marine lube. You’ll note in the photos there is now seating for 4-5 people, made from marine grade Naugahyde and well made framework. Fits and rides nicely. Installed the new engine (I like yellow) with an Edelbrock Air-Gap intake and the marine modified 860 cfm Holley carb. I installed a water-separator fuel filter, and the boat has a 20 gallon fuel tank (premium fuel only with a bottle of octane booster is nice).
All the trailers bearings and seals have been replaced as well.
The boat is now Emron Canary Yellow with Tangerine highlighting, the hull and stringers are all in excellent condition, the cavitation plate has a foot over-ride with adjustable manual shim type cavitation plate control.
The exhaust manifolds are Bassett water injected and heat wrapped just in case one forgets they get really hot, and has saved my hands several times. The exhaust has lake legal Super-Trap noise reduction plates and I also have a set of inside tube mufflers. This is a wonderful and fast boat, handles the rough water nicely and well built boat. The bad news is that last year I was diagnosed with some serious kidney issues and my Doctors have indicated I shall not go out tooling around at 80-90 mph in this boat, so with all the work that’s been done on it and the shape it’s in, with a full, form fitting cover, the price is very fair.
I will also consider a TRADE for a newer, recently serviced Yamaha or Sea-Doo 3 seater PWC (no trailer needed).
Text or call; the boat is being kept at Lake LBJ.
